SMT Material Handler - 2nd Shift


Kay and Associates is seeking an SMT Material Handler to work on 2nd shift at a client facility in Wheeling, Illinois.

The main responsibilities for the position are performing material handling processes in support of Surface Mount and proper inventory control. Execute daily job functions in accordance with company ISO standards and work instructions as trained. Primary scope of this job is to properly store, handle, accurately count and disperse parts inventory with competent and efficient performance.




$12.00 - $14.00/HR, DOE

Work Schedule:

2nd Shift: Monday Friday (4:00PM - 12:30PM)


  • Will be properly attired in ESD protective wear, such as company issued smocks, heel straps and eyeglasses, required for safe material handling purposes.
  • Put away all incoming SMT material to assigned locations on a daily basis, maintaining proper rotation of dated material inventory (First In First Out).
  • Process orders by picking and staging job kits for SMT operation.
  • Orders are required to be picked accurate in both correct item and count; using ESD safe handling methods, consistent with ISO work instructions.
  • Materials will be picked and issued according to proper date rotation (FIFO) and specification (manufacture and brand).
  • Service parts requisitions.
  • Accurately count, package and deliver parts to requesting party or work area.
  • Participate in Inventory related activities (physical inventories, cycle counts, stockroom organization, and various assignments) where and when required to do so.
  • Maintain assigned work area in a neat and orderly appearance, daily.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs

Physical Demands:

  • Lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Use of hands to finger, handle, or feel
  • Stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, talk, or hear
  • Stoop, sit, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less)
  • Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors)


  • High School diploma or GED
  • 2+ years' of processing orders and staging job kits for SMT operation in acontract electronics manufacturing environment
  • 2+ years experience in inventory management or related field inventory management or related field
  • Ability to speak effectively with operators, leaders and support staff required.
  • Experience in the safe operation of mechanical devices such as hand tools and soldering equipment.
  • Excellent math skills
  • Computer Literate


  • Must be detail oriented
  • Able to work well independently and with a team
  • Ability to multitask in a fast paced work environment

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
